POST HISTORY

On February 17,  1988, a Temporary Charter was issued for the Fountain City Post 267. Application  for its Permanent Charter on February 10, 1992, under Commander Robert Dorsey. The Post entered into an agreement on May 16, 1985, for a Post home at 2001 Schatulga Road, Columbus, Georgia.  Permanent Charter was issued on March 12, 1992 in the name of Samuel G. Cooke, Post 267.   At the time of the Permanent Charter, Post 267 had a total of 155 members, with 135 the previous year.  Membership was and still is restricted to honorably discharged veterans.  The Post has a unit of the American Legion Auxiliary and operates under a Constitution and By-Laws and is now incorporated.  The non-profit corporation was issued on February 25, 1994.   The Samuel G. Cooke, American Legion contiues to thrive and grow in membership and community involvement.
